How you will always be searching for something more if you are not making money from your authentic self
If your goal is truly happiness and money, not just money, I promise you that working different jobs, learning different skills, enrolling in different courses will never fulfil you. Even if you are a success in those fields you will keep wanting and striving for more if those things all feel like a destination to exchange your time for money. As opposed to your passions for money.
I know this is true, my clients and I are proof of it. But today something mad happened and I wanted to tell you about it. A beautiful woman that I had a discovery call with about a year ago was really on her route to try to find exactly what she wanted to do and how she wanted to earn money in a new business. Very talented, very hard-working and ready for action.
However, because at the time she just lacked belief in herself, lacked a growth money mindset she chose the option that wasn’t the most vulnerable and she chose the option that didn’t require so much courage from a personal point of view. The thought process of “how can I make money?“ as opposed to “What do I truly love and am passionate about that I could monetise.”? This is super hard for many humans because when we do truly go for our dreams or we go for the thing that we care most about, we are the most passionate about, that triggers us in to joining a conversation when mentioned. The thing we have to talk about all the time, maybe the thing that you do in your spare time. The thing that you love to research, you love to study, it’s scary as fucking hell because in that moment it almost feels so personally attached to us that if we fail our whole existence is a failure and we also doubt it surely can’t be that easy?
What I mean is that it’s so much easier to go out to work and learn a skill because if it doesn’t work out it’s not attached to you. But when you start showing up with who you actually are it’s frightening to begin with but it’s the most liberating feeling in the world when you actually make money. It’s like you’re in a dream destination and that’s where you start to feel truly fulfilled.
My personal experience in my business journey and authenticity
I want to use my journey as an example and share it with you because I’m always transparent with my clients and I think it will help you understand more for your own. In 2015 I built a company, my personal business. I knew I didn’t want to work for anyone else. But when I built it into a six figure business the missing factor was that it didn’t represent who I am, my spirit, my loves, the ability to travel, what I am passionate talking about, what I truly would love to see more in this world. It was a property lettings company that offered services. I was solely proud of it and what I had built but it wasn’t truly who I was. I’ll never forget my best friend in 2018 saying '“mate it’s weird that you don’t want to go to work, it’s your business.“
Finding my true purpose of helping women achieve their full potential
Now the business I grew after that and which I have now is all connected to everything that I am. It is fully intrinsic. What I mean by that is that I help women understand that they do not have to be capped by the expectations of this society regardless of how we are overseeing where we stand today, trying to navigate leadership in this masculine toxic conditions route. Along with that, we are truly limitless and do not need to be put in boxes. Our happiness isn’t anywhere, it’s from within us. What I have learnt is everything I do in my work is everything I’ve seen in my journey, everything I’m passionate about in every conversation and actually I cry with gratitude at times when I think of the amount of money that I exchange for showing up every day in my work because I truly am just sharing myself in a way that I would be when meeting somebody for the first time, conversations I would have to be apart of. Now don’t get me wrong my clients reinvest with me because the ROI is there. I’m explaining that we all have gifts, our ‘normal’, but it is not anyone else’s. For you it’s the ability to identify yours, with a mixture of deserving to exchange them for the money or energy you deserve.
Learn to reflect and present yourself to the world with your passions
So if what I have said so far resonates with you, I want you to start by really being honest with yourself. Journal it out, really reflect back on your day and think what did I like about today? What conversations did I enjoy today? Did I enjoy my work? The way I showed up to make money? Was it fulfilling? Think beyond the money exchange, as in time for money. Fulfilling means abundance in every form - you personally, your business…the ethics and vision of it. All of my clients know that when I mentor them they are looking for their vision and mission which should be born out of one another.
There shouldn't be a separate thing for different areas of your life. If you’re not happy at work then you’re going to bring that energy home into your personal life. Equally if you’re not grounded in your business you cannot physically as a human being, authentically switch that off and present in our personal life a different version of us if you want true fulfilment. We have to truly believe and recondition our minds that making money is easy and deep routed fulfilment is available to all of us. We are fully deserving but you have to believe it first and really reflect on you, on the things that you do. You can then make sense of your journey and actually be honest with yourself. Then really figure out in small steps the things that you want to have in your life more and more. Love and be brave enough to present yourself to the world with your passions or by sharing what you’re really good or knowledgeable about because there are tons of ways to make money but the way we make money for long term fulfilment should be from within us.
Example of having an authentic business
Let me leave you with this. If we sold pens we could make money but this is where you’ll find money and fulfilment or just money. Tim starts an e-commerce business because he sees the uplift in buying pens from a manufacturer and thinks “Great, I can see the profit and theres a demand. Everyone needs a pen, right?” However, Suzzie and Lauren get kidnapped in the dessert and are locked away in a hut for days. Suzzie finds a pen and writes a note that helps lead to their rescue. They are so OVERWHELMED with what this pen had meant, it has literally saved their lives. They start a brand selling pens. Both people could make money and sell pens, I’m sure. Yet you see how for Tim it might be easy to find enthusiasm to sell in the beginning, but by the 6574th pen, it’s likely it will feel draining, dull, relentless, repetitive and hard. This is because it’s' extrinsic. Suzzie and Lauren have struggles but they never lose the love to sell, the energy to connect to their customers because it's a part of their intrinsic morals and passions.
I know a lot of the things I have described could seem great but super overwhelming in where to start. If you do feel this way and if you truly do want to take this path for your happiness, you may really benefit with a mentor. I did to get to mine and I still have her. If this is the case for you, I’d love to hear from you maybe I can help you.
Love always,
Laura.
